Trust is critical in student-teacher relationships: There are many reasons why building relationships with students is crucial to student learning; however, building trust can be challenging to create and maintain with all students. Some ways teachers can best assure students trust them is through being reliable, fair, and remaining competent in teaching (Alber, 2010). Students need to know that no matter the situation you will be there to address it and that you will address it in a fair professional manner. Students must also feel like their teacher can “enhance their learning” and make a difference in their learning (Evans, 2012, pg 1) . If a student feels like their teacher is not credible students are much less willing to be vulnerable in their own learning. Lastly, teachers should be honest. If you make a mistake it is important to admit and model how you can grow from it. Students must feel like you are human as well and willing to admit when mistakes have been made. Each Lea
